Unlimited Cities is an open-source civic contribution tool, initiated in France in 2014 by architects, urbanists, sociologists, and engineers, in close collaboration with cities and associations. The Open Urbanism Foundation, a public-interest foundation, was created in the Canton of Geneva and guarantees the initial intent as well as the irrevocable sharing of the tool under copyleft licenses, CC BY-SA 4.0 for the methodology and documentation, and GNU AGPLv3 for the digital platform's source code.

The technical part is operated by the Free IT Foundation, also based in the Canton of Geneva since its creation in 2005, a foundation that supports the development of free and open-source technologies.
